The Self Life

The Exchanged Life 4

Today we understand another answer in how to live the exchanged life, our life for Christ’s life.

Dr. Charles Stanley’s testimony (Charles Stanley is someone who has taught the exchanged life for years on his radio broadcasts, and TV programs).  The following is a quote from him.

“Here I was trying and struggling to live the Christian life doing the best I knew how, but somehow never feeling that I could quite match up to what God expected of me.  To be able to enjoy living the Christian life was always beyond my reach.  Then something happened.  I began to understand a simple truth.  I was set free, and what I had been trying to do so desperately began to flow without effort.  When I started to understand the truth of this message, it revolutionized my life.

What is God’s purpose for His children?

It is to give up our flesh patterns and trust Him, knowing He alone has all things under His control.

Diagram 4

This diagram explains the Negative Programmed Flesh. The flesh is any way or means by which we try to meet our own needs through our effort.  We learn when relinquishing our own thoughts that external circumstances are not the problem.  The problem is there to reveal to us that our needs (or the needs of others) cannot be met by our strength.

Messages by parents, or siblings, or friends, loved ones, have brought us and shaped us into the person we are today.  These messages control our belief system and feelings.   We have learned from life experiences, that our self-image needs to be protected by us by meeting our own needs.  This reasoning includes our defense mechanism.

I’m sure you have heard people say, “If I don’t help myself, who will?”  Believing the last statement is a learned flesh pattern and behavior.  When we give this felling time to develop, it becomes our behavior and performs in the belief system of our soul.  It becomes the way we function.  For we are spirit, soul, and body.  Our soul is where our self-life takes over before salvation.  It makes our experiences our belief system.

We all have basic God-given needs which God desires for us to fulfill.  He wants us to know love, security in Him, as well as enjoy the life we are living.  God desires us to know significance and value in this life.    But if we are functioning out of our own resources (which are brought on by flesh patterns of self-sufficiency), we are not able to operate in the joy God has intended for us.

In Galatians 5:19-21, it speaks of the works of the flesh.

19 – Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of  which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Back to Charles Stanley

What Dr. Stanley learned was that there was no way he could live the Christian Life by functioning out of his flesh patterns.  Step by step we understand it is impossible to live the Christian Life through our self-effort.  God never intended for us too.  He always wanted for us to learn how to live life through Him.  Galatians 2:20.

Victory in Trusting.

The following event is of an experience I had concerning total surrender.  It is part of giving up our flesh patterns.

On July 15th, 2017 I spoke at an Aglow meeting in the Eagle River area in my state. The night before speaking, I was getting ready for bed brushing my hair. I had forgotten about the earing's still on my ears. One of them went flying out as it caught the brush. My daughter who was with me and I searched for 2 hours everywhere we could and did not find it anywhere in the approximately 10x12 foot room. Then the owner of the B&B (Judy) spent several more hours searching for it, and we didn't find it either. The next day, Judy did a more extensive search with a vacuum cleaner, took apart room vents, etc. and could not find it. Judy was determined to find my earing! When I left to go home, it was still missing. Judy said she was sure the Lord would return it to me as we said good-bye.

Last week I received a call from Judy while my husband and I were on vacation in the Eagle River area. Judy had taken some pictures of my daughter, and me while at her B&B, and wanted to send them to me with the hearing she believed she would find. She prayed again, asking for the earing from the Lord. The earing was unique to me because my daughter had given them to me. But I released it to the Lord.

A day before Judy called, the Lord had spoken to me about something that He wanted me to do that I was not thrilled about doing while in prayer. I asked Him if this was Him, could He give me my earing back. I was going to do it anyway, but said, "I'd like my earring back Lord, as confirmation if you don't mind?"

Still surprised when Judy called and said she found it the next day, I asked her how it happened? Where was the earring? She said it was wrapped in a cord behind the large dresser. God told her exactly where to look. She had to untangle it from the cord. This event occurring in itself is terrific. For it should have just gone unto the floor.

How utterly amazing God is! He used the earring to build Judy's faith (for Judy knew He would return it to me, she told before leaving); and also used it as a confirmation for a future assignment I am to work on! What an AMAZING GOD WE SERVE!
